What is Insight Meditation?
Insight meditation (Vipassana) is the practice of moment-to-moment mindfulness. Through sustained observation of the ever-changing experience of life, we deepen in awareness, insight, and equanimity, and cultivate wisdom and compassion as the guiding principles of our lives.
We do this meditation at least daily, then with our local sangha regularly, and on longer retreats where we can further deepen into the practice and experience its many benefits.
The Buddha's teachings, as preserved in the Pali Canon, provide a comprehensive and well-mapped path to awakening.
In the last few decades, Insight meditation has grown throughout the West with retreat centers and sitting groups (sometimes called sanghas, meaning “communities”) across many continents. The Buddhist Insight Network serves as the connecting link for sangha leaders and teachers to learn from and support each other in practicing and sharing the dharma, the teachings of the Buddha.
