During the first week of October, 2013, many Buddhist teachers – from Insight and other Buddhist traditions – were united in both celebrating our natural world and addressing the major environmental issues of our times. The idea to do this was born at the June 2013 International Vipassana Teachers’ meeting at Spirit Rock, and was facilitated by a new organization called One Earth Sangha.
Check out the list of inspiring Earth Care Week activities, as reported by One Earth Sangha. These occurred at Insight sanghas all over North America.
There are three prominent areas where teachers took action:
Offering Dharma talks on nature and caring for our natural world.
Promoting green living as a dimension of Dharma practice.
Organizing sangha events focused on the environment for those who are part of a Dharma center or sitting group.
Earth Care Week in October is intended to be an annual event for the Buddhist community, supplementing Earth Day in April. BIN invites you to share what you are teaching about or offering to your group: Contact us here.
